Firefighter Attacked On South Side
CHICAGO (STMW) - A Chicago Firefighter en route to a call was attacked Wednesday evening by a motorist blocking traffic on the South Side.
A fire department vehicle responding to a call with its emergency equipment activated was stopped about 5:25 p.m. in the 7200 block of South Lafayette Avenue because a vehicle was in the road, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said.
The 52-year-old firefighter and a passenger in the car blocking the road exited their vehicles and the passenger attacked the firefighter, police said. He then returned to his vehicle and fled.
The firefighter was taken to a local hospital in good condition with minor injuries.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating, but nobody is in custody Wednesday night.
