Fire Rips Through Plastics Recycling Plant
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The smell of burned plastic remained in the air on the Southwest Side at dawn Monday, after an extra-alarm fire ripped through a recycling plant.
The fire broke out at the plant at 2880 W. 48th Pl., in the Brighton Park neighborhood, sometime before 3 a.m., fire officials said.
A Level 1 Hazardous Materials was also called for the fire, officials told the Sun-Times Media Wire. A hazmat team secured the area.
The fire was out by 4 a.m. There were no reports of any injuries, and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
