Two-Alarm Blaze Damages State Senator's Downers Grove Office

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (STMW) -- Firefighters spent almost three hours putting out a fire that erupted at a two-story brick office building early Monday in west suburban Downers Grove.
The two-alarm fire destroyed the district office of state Sen. Ron Sandack (R-Downers Grove).
"Tough start to the day," Sandack wrote on his Twitter page. "Rec'd call @ 3:15 a.m. that the building where my legislative office is housed had a major fire. Could be total loss."
At 1:46 a.m., first responding units found thick smoke and "extensive fire" coming from the roof of the building in the 1100 block of Warren Avenue, which did not have a sprinkler system and was not connected to the village's alarm board, according to a release from the Downers Grove Fire Department.
The two-alarm fire caused part of the roof to collapse, forcing firefighters to leave the building and "attack" the fire from outside, the release said. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire at 4:32 a.m.
No one was inside the building when the fire broke out, and no injuries were reported.
The Downers Grove Fire Department received help from fire departments in Lombard, Argonne, Hinsdale, Oak Brook Terrace, Darien Woodridge, Naperville, York Center, Oak Brook, Bollingbrook and Westmont.
