Fire Rips Through Home In Glen Ellyn
UPDATED 06/27/11 10:43 a.m.
GLEN ELLYN, Ill. (CBS) -- A fire ripped through a house in west suburban Glen Ellyn Monday morning, leaving the house seriously damaged.
The fire broke out in the two-story, single-family frame house at 555 Dawes Ave., police said. Upon arriving around 4:30 a.m. Monday, Glen Ellyn police officers and firefighters found the house engulfed, police said.
The smoke detectors in the house woke the homeonwers up, and they escaped without injury, police said. Neighbors in the home inext to the one that was on fire were also evacuated as precaution, but the fire did not damage their house, police said.
A CBS 2 viewer, Todd Sherman, submitted photos that showed flames shooting out of windows toward the roof.
Once the fire was out, it appeared that about 50 percent of the roof had been destroyed.
No one was injured in the fire. The cause remains under investigation, police said.
