Fire reduces building to shell in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A major fire destroyed a building in the South Shore neighborhood early Monday morning.
The fire broke out in the building at 1637 E. 75th St., at Cornell Avenue. The Chicago Fire Department called a 2-11 alarm around 12:15 a.m. for additional equipment and manpower.
The flames were out by 7 a.m., but only the exterior walls of the building were left by then.
No injuries were reported.
The single-story brick building had two ground-level doors on either side of a large overhead garage door in the center.
It appears that the building may have been abandoned, but CBS News Chicago was still waiting to hear back from investigators late Monday.
