Fire Evacuates Streamwood Wal-Mart
STREAMWOOD, Ill. (CBS) - A fire Friday morning prompted the evacuation of a Wal-Mart store in northwest suburban Streamwood.
The fire broke out in a section of the Wal-Mart at 850 S. Barrington Rd., just north of Irving Park Road.
CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports the blaze affected a section of the store that was under construction, as the store was in the process of being expanded to a Super Wal-Mart.
The fire at the store at 850 S. Barrington Rd. started about 10:45 a.m. and was out at 11:25 a.m., according to a spokeswoman for the Streamwood Fire Department.
A large pile of construction material at the rear of the building caught fire. The steel-beam trusses in the new section of the building were warped by the heat of the fire.
The area where the fire started is built out away from the main store, and is not populated by any merchandise. No one was inside the store at the time and there were no injuries.
An investigation into the cause of the fire was underway.
