Fire Destroys Far South Side Grocery Store
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An overnight fire destroyed a grocery store in the Far South Side's West Pullman neighborhood.
The fire was blazing when firefighters arrived at 11:25 p.m. Tuesday at the Community Mini-Mart, at 127th Street and Union Avenue, fire officials said.
Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to a building to the north, Fire Media Affairs Chief Joe Roccasalva said.
No one was hurt but the blaze caused part of the building to collapse, he said. Crews extinguished the fire shortly after midnight.
The store, located at 12658 S. Union Ave., has been closed for the past six months and officials are investigating the possibility that the fire was suspicious, police said.
Detectives from the police Bomb & Arson Section were sent to the scene and were investigating early Wednesday, a sergeant said.
