As part of an outline of possible-—but not recommended—-budget cuts, Chicago Inspector General Joe Ferguson's report this week noted that reducing the number of firefighters on each piece of apparatus to four might save the City nearly $65 million.
But, at a City Council Budget hearing, Fire Commissioner Robert Hoff said that would put the lives of the firefighters, and the public they serve, in Jeopardy.
Aldermen have been taking every opportunity this week to slam the IG's budget report, and they agreed with Hoff wholeheartedly.
