Fire Breaks Out At Edgewater Building
Updated 08/19/11 - 3:34 p.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Firefighters were on the scene of a blaze at a building in the Edgewater neighborhood Friday afternoon.
The fire started about 2:45 p.m. at a three-story townhouse at 5757 N. Sheridan Rd., according to the Fire Department.
A still-and-box alarm and an EMS Plan I -- which sends five ambulances to the scene -- were called for the blaze.
The Fire Department also called for a high-rise response to the blaze, as the building is next door to a high-rise residential building and officials wanted to be prepared in case smoke or flames got into the high-rise.
The fire created a large column of black smoke that could be seen for several blocks, but the Fire Department said no injuries were reported.
Both alarms were struck out and secured by 3:18 p.m.
