Fire Breaks Out In North Austin Home
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Firefighters braved dangerous cold and unplowed streets to battle a blaze in the North Austin neighborhood.
The fire broke out sometime before 6 a.m. in the 500 block of North LeClaire Avenue, just off Ferdinand Street.
The fire was raging on both floors of the brick two-flat apartment building.
CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports the tower ladder was raised to allow firefighters access to the roof. A hole in the roof allowed ventilation of the heat, smoke and gases so that firefighters could safely enter the first and second floors.
LeClaire Avenue remains unplowed from the blizzard this week. While fire vehicles were able to get onto the street, the conditions made it difficult for ingress and egress.
There was no word of any injuries in the fire.
