CHICAGO (WBBM) -- If you think you had relatives who served in the Civil War, you can now go online to check.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Bernie Tafoya reports, the National Archives and Ancestry.com have published the new records, giving people a chance to see whether they have family who served in the Civil War.

The records include about 3 million names.
Archivists estimate there are about 17 million Americans who had relatives who fought in the Civil War.
Checking the information on Ancestry.com is free for a week, then they have to pay. But it's fun to look.
Even though Tafoya's family came to the United States in the 20th century, he discovered 120 Tafoyas who served in the Civil War.
