'Field Of Dreams' Turned To Reality
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Baseball fans know all about the Field of Dreams.
CBS 2's Roseanne Tellez has an update on the local woman who bought that magical baseball diamond and brought back a popular tradition born in an Iowa cornfield.
The ghosts of White Sox players, including some of the actual actors from the movie classic "Field of Dreams," are taking the field in Dyersville again, mixing it up with sightseers, and sharing a little movie magic.
It's all thanks to Denise Stillman, a businesswoman from Oak Lawn, who bought the property.
She has an ambitious plan to turn the adjoining cornfields into a 24-field tournament facility.
"I've had complete strangers come up and hug me and cry and thank me, and I say, 'It's the field, it's not me,'" Stillman said.
To kick off the project, there will be baseball games for the kids
"I thought, 'Wouldn't it be great this inaugural season of ownership to let kids have games under the lights at the Field of Dreams?'" Stillman said.
And so tomorrow night, the Palos Stampede will play the local Dyersville team.
The Stampede are very exited to play there.
"It's coming close to the end of the year and it's one of the most perfect endings," said John Stillman, of Palos Stampede.
Stillman hopes to open at least half of the fields for tournaments by next spring.
On Saturday, and then every other Sunday, you can go out and catch the ghost players emerge from the cornfields.
