Fewer People Hitting The Road For 4th Of July
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Fewer people will be hitting the road this 4th of July holiday weekend.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Debra Dale reports, about 1.9 million Illinois residents will be driving over 50 miles from home this upcoming weekend, down about 3 percent from last year.

But while driving is down, AAA spokeswoman Beth Mosher says air travel in Illinois is up 27 percent from last Independence Day weekend.
Mosher says income is making a difference in the way households are dealing with gas prices about $1 higher than they were one year ago.
"Really a big dichotomy that we haven't seen in years past – that those in the lower income bracket are choosing to take those vacations and stay closer to home," she said.
Mosher says the gas prices are pushing higher-income households to fly instead of drive.
