Ferrara Pan Candy Chairman, Nello Ferrara, Dead At Age Of 93
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An icon in the candy industry will be laid to rest today--after a funeral Mass at Holy Family Church on Chicago's Near West Side
The chairman of Ferrara Pan Candy, Nello Ferrara, died on Friday. He was 93.
Ferrara Pan was started by his father in 1908. The plant is located along the Eisenhower Expy. at Harlem Avenue in Forest Park.
Nello Ferrara is credited with creating Lemonheads, Atomic Fireballs and Red Hots candy.
Nello Ferrara's son told the Chicago Sun-Times that his dad came up with the idea for Atomic Fireballs while working as a young lawyer at a war crimes tribunal in Japan in the 1950s.
