Man Found Dead In Fernwood House Fire; Death Investigation Underway
CHICAGO (CBS)-- A man in his 60s was found dead in a house fire in the Fernwood neighborhood, and investigators are looking into whether foul play might have been involved.
A fire broke out near 104th Street and Normal Avenue shortly before 6 a.m. Firefighters found the body of a man in his 60s in an upstairs bedroom.
Sources said the man had injuries not related to the fire, and investigators are looking into the possibility of foul play.
The victim's name has not been released, but a woman at the scene said she's his aunt.
"He's the mechanic on this block. He do work for everybody. He assists me, whatever I need to be done. He sits and talks with my brother every day, and he's just a good person," Sandra Taylor said.
A firefighter was injured when he fell through a floor in the home. He was taken to the hospital in good condition.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
