Fenger Student's Killer Pleads Guilty, Sentenced To 32 Years
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The parolee charged in the 2010 shooting death of a Fenger High School student outside a convenience store pleaded guilty Thursday to a murder charge and could be locked up for the rest of his natural life.
Randall White, 43, of the 11900 block of South Wallace Street, was sentenced to 32 years in prison by Judge James Linn, according to Cook County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Tundra Simonton.
White admitted killing Fred D. Couch after exchanging "looks" with him at a store on Dec. 31, 2009. Couch, known as "Little Fred" to his family, was shot twice in the back about 8:15 p.m. outside Big Sam's Mini Mart at 333 W. 119th, police said.
White, who was in a dark-colored four-door SUV, yelled, "You that n----- from earlier!" before he fired at the teen, police said.
A store surveillance video that captured the incident and interviews with witnesses led police to White, who fled on foot when officers arrived at his home to arrest him three days after the shooting, police said. He was taken into custody following a short foot chase.
White had served about two years of a six-year prison sentence when he was paroled just two weeks before the murder.
