Feds: Man Set North Side Condo Fire In Retaliation

CHICAGO (STMW) - A man set fire to a North Side apartment building in retaliation for an earlier gang-related shooting in the summer of 2010, not realizing the suspected shooter no longer lived there, according to federal charges filed Tuesday.

Flamur "Evil" Mulosmani was charged Tuesday with intentionally setting fire to a building at 6222 N. Washtenaw Ave. on Aug. 4, 2010, in retaliation for a shooting, according to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court.

Chicago Police responded about 1:50 a.m. on July 15, 2010, to a shooting near North Washtenaw and West Granville and learned Mulosmani was in a van with a group of people, some of whom were wounded by gunfire, according to an affidavit. The shooting was gang-related.

Officers located a suspect in his apartment, but the victims refused to cooperate and police closed the investigation, according to the affidavit. Mulosmani is accused of starting a fire at the three-story apartment building between midnight and 1 a.m. on Aug. 4, 2010.

All four units in the building were occupied when the fire started, the affidavit said. Fire investigators determined the blaze was intentionally set at the ground floor stairwell.

Mulosmani later was recorded in a conversation with an informant saying he poured a flammable liquid throughout the hallway and ignited it with a burning piece of paper, according to the affidavit.

The shooting suspect had moved out of the apartment before the fire, but his girlfriend and family still lived there.
