FedEx Rolls Out All-Electric Delivery Trucks
CHICAGO (CBS) -- FedEx has just rolled six all-electric delivery trucks into service in Chicago, and they've really been turning heads.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Bernie Tafoya reports, the all-electric FedEx trucks have no sound; they're stealth. You can't hear them coming, so drivers have been resorting to a sound that bicyclists, pedestrian and other motorists are used to hearing – namely the old-fashioned horn.

James Whitaker is a driver assigned to one of the new vehicles.
"It's pretty cool," he said. "I like it. It's nice and quiet; it's an attention-getter."
FedEx now has 43 all-electric vehicles in its fleet around the country, in New York, Los Angeles, Memphis and Chicago.
The batteries need charging only every six days, the same as a diesel truck would be able to go on a tank of gas, but with no pollution.
