Federal Government: Thousands Of Illinoisans Benefiting From Health Care Reform
CHICAGO (CBS) -- As we wait for the Supreme Court's decision on the Affordable Care Act, the Obama administration says thousands of Illinois residents are benefiting from it.
As WBBM Newsradio's Nancy Harty reports, 26,000 Medicare recipients in Illinois have saved $16 million thanks to a provision in the act that shrinks the "doughnut hole" -- a gap in coverage that forces Medicare recipients to pay for all their prescription drug costs.
The federal government says the average savings of the first five months of this year is $636 per person.
In total, the savings amounted to $16.7 million.
The federal government releases the positive news in advance of an anticipated U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the Health Care Reform law, which could come later Monday.
