FBI Catches Fugitive Child Porn Suspect
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The FBI has caught a child pornography suspect from Bolingbrook, who could now face up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
Ruben Sanchez, 38, whose last was known to live in the 100 block of South Pinecrest Road in Bolingbrook, had been wanted by the FBI for more than two years.
He was charged in a criminal complaint with possession of child pornography in February 2009, and charged in addition with distribution of child pornography two months ago.
The FBI found Sanchez Friday evening, hiding out in an apartment in the 2000 block of North Kenneth Avenue in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood. He had been staying in the apartment with a roommate.
When the FBI arrived, Sanchez brandished a pellet gun and tried to run out the back door of the apartment, but was ultimately arrested without incident, the FBI said.
The FBI found Sanchez thanks to someone who had seen recent news coverage of his offenses and recognized his picture.
In 2008, the FBI took away a laptop computer from Sanchez's old Bolingbrook home, and 29 CDs, and numerous images of minor children engaged in sexual activity or appearing in lewd images were found.
The FBI later linked the images to Sanchez, and found that he had been distributing them to others.
He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Susan Cox on Saturday, where he was ordered held without bond.
If convicted, he could go to prison for 30 years.
