Man Kills Wife And Daughter, Attempts Suicide In Little Village
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A mother and her 5-year-old daughter were found slain in their Little Village home overnight, and police said the man who shot them is the girl's father, who also tried to kill himself.
CBS 2's Susanna Song reports 5-year-old Carla Eguez and her mother, 28-year-old Kelly Coca, were found around early Tuesday in a home in the 2800 block of South Kildare Avenue. Both had been shot in the head.
Police said Coca's estranged husband, a 27-year-old man, shot himself in the head after killing his wife and daughter. He survived, but was in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Relatives said Coca had been separated from her husband for four years. The two met in Bolivia, and when they separated, Coca came to Chicago to be near her family.
Carla had just spent a week visiting her father in Miami. Her mother drove down to Florida, picked up her daughter, and brought her home to Chicago. No one expected Carla's father would follow them back, and then kill them both before trying to take his own life.
"I want to be angry, it's just that I cant. You know, I'm just very saddened right now. I hope he lives, so he can acknowledge what he's done to my family, and to his very own daughter," Coca's nephew Claudio Cossio said.
Carla was about to start kindergarten in a couple weeks. She visited Disney World with her mother just a few days ago.
Coca and her husband met in Bolivia, but separated four years ago. Kelly had moved to the Little Village neighborhood to be with her family, who lived with her in the house on Kildare.
"We believe it was premeditated murder," Cossio said. "He came from Indiana, purchased a gun, and waited for them to come, and killed them; broke into the house, and killed them."
Coca's family said the estranged husband rented a red SUV, and waited inside the vehicle until the two came home.
"He had knocked on the door, and the little girl opened it, and as soon she opened it … [he] opened fire," Cossio said.
Coca's sister heard the shooting around 12:15 a.m.
"She heard shots, she ran downstairs, and heard him scream. She grabbed a knife, and she saw it through the window," Cossio said.
Police said the husband shot his wife and daughter in the head, then turned the gun on himself.
"We thought he could have done something, but we never thought he would actually come to the point of killing somebody, or his own daughter," Cossio said.
Cossio said his cousin was a "big-hearted" girl who liked ballet.
"She likes to play with her iPad, like do little artsy stuff with princesses," he said.
Area Central detectives were investigating. No charges had been filed as of 11 a.m.
