Father Charged With DUI In Crash That Killed Son, 4
(CBS) -- A 29-year-old man has been charged with drunk driving in a crash that killed his 4-year-old son and injured two other children.
Illinois State Police said Shannard Dyer, of Romeoville, was driving a Dodge Journey south on Interstate 55 near Interstate 355, with three children in the back seat, when he lost control of the SUV around 2 a.m. Sunday.
The vehicle hit a concrete median wall and flipped over, ejecting all three children were ejected from the SUV, police said.
Taylor Dyer, 4, was pronounced dead at the scene. His father and two other children were taken to hospitals.
Taylor's brothers, ages 2 and 7, were taken in critical condition to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Shannard Dyer was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with injuries that weren't thought to be life-threatening.
Monday morning, Dyer was charged with driving under the influence of alchol and driving too fast for conditions, according to state police.
Court information was not immediately available.
