Grandmother, Grandson Killed When Train Hits Truck In Gary
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A grandmother and her 7-year-old grandson were killed Tuesday morning when a freight train hit a truck in Gary, Indiana.
Police officers responded to the crash shortly after 8 a.m. near Lake Street and Miller Avenue. Gary Police Lt. Dawn Westerfield said an eastbound train hit a green Chevy truck that was crossing the tracks.
Janetta McClellan, 57, and her grandson, Eric McClellan Jr., were pronounced dead at the scene.
The boy was on his way to school when the accident happened.
His godmother, Keeana Barber, describes the child as a "sweet kid."
"His dad and grandmother were the two most important people in his life," she tells CBS 2.
