2 Officers Injured In Crash Involving Squad Car On Far South Side

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two Chicago Police officers were injured Wednesday evening in an accident involving a squad car on the city's Far South Side.

The crash happened at 115th Street and Michigan Avenue, on the cusp of the Roseland and West Pullman neighborhoods.

Just before 6:30 p.m., a marked Chicago Police squad car was headed south on Michigan Avenue with its lights and sirens activated, when a Ford Explorer headed west on 115th Street hit the police vehicle in the driver's side, police said.

The police vehicle flipped on its side, police said.

The Fire Department said the two officers in the squad car were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair to serious condition, while four civilians refused treatment. None of the injuries were life-threatening, the Fire Department said.

The driver of the Ford Explorer was ticketed for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, not having insurance, and passing a vehicle on the right shoulder.

The police Major Accident Investigation Unit was investigating late Wednesday.
