Fans Celebrate As Cubs Clinch Postseason Series At Home
(CBS) -- Cubs fans left Wrigley Field in a party mood after clinching their National League Division Series against the St. Louis Cardinals, three games to one, on Tuesday evening.
The Cubs did something they've never done in the 101-year history of Wrigley Field -- clinch a postseason series at home -- the opponent was the archrival Cardinals.

WBBM's Bob Roberts reports the fans cheered themselves hoarse, sang "Go Cubs Go" half a dozen times, waved their victory flags and towels, laughed, cried, hugged and expressed disbelief that the hated Cardinals were vanquished.
"Before the season began, I was expecting nothing," said one fan. "This is incredible."
Fans spilled out onto the streets around Wrigley Field to celebrate. Police put up fences to keep open the center of Clark and Addison, a perimeter to maintain control. The crowd, though loud, was well behaved.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel released a congratulatory statement saying, "On behalf of the City of Chicago, I am proud to congratulate our Chicago Cubs on their victory over the St. Louis Cardinals to advance to the National League Championship Series. The fact that they took care of business here at Wrigley in front of the most patient and passionate fans in the world was all the more special. Their magical playoff run continues to rally our city and bring out the true spirit of Chicago. One series victory down, two more to go. #FlyTheW!"
Even President Barack Obama, a White Sox fan, tweeted his congratulations.
Congrats @Cubs - even @whitesox fans are rooting for you!
