Family Of Beaten Nursing Home Patient Retains Attorneys
OAK PARK, Ill. (CBS) – The family of Anibal Calderon, who allegedly died violently while in the care of a nursing home, has hired a law firm to investigate.
Earlier this month, the 80-year-old died of head injuries that may have stemmed from a fight with another resident at the Oak Park Healthcare Center, at 625 N. Harlem Ave. in Oak Park.
Police have said another resident at the nursing home, a 66-year-old man, beat Calderon in the head with something after an argument.
"You put your father in a place, he's supposed to be safe," Anibal Calderon's son, Robert, said Monday. "It turns out he's not."
Family members say they hope they'll find justice and prevent another family from feeling the pain they're experiencing now.
"These types of incidents only happen when there's a failure to properly monitor and supervise the residents," the Calderons' attorney, Mike Bonamarte, said.
The attorney for Oak Park Healthcare Center could not be reached for comment.
