Family, Friends Rally Around Cop Charged In Shooting Spree
LYNWOOD (CBS) Supporters on Monday rallied behind a Lynwood police officer accused of killing one man, wounding two others and terrorizing a two-state area.
Brian Dorian, 37, will be in court Tuesday to face murder charges for the death of Rolando Alonzo. Monday night, Dorian's friends gathered at a Lynwood sports bar to send authorities a message: They've arrested the wrong man.
Leading the efforts are Dorian's mother and sister, who say the real Brian is no killer.
"I want people to know my brother is innocent," an emotional Tara Olivera, Dorian's sister, told CBS 2's Vince Gerasole. "All the charges against him are false, and all the evidence will prove that."
Dorian's mother, Diane, agrees that Will county authories have the wrong man, much like they wrongly arrested and held Riley Fox's father in that girl's 2004 rape and murder before DNA tests cleared him. Dorian is allegedly the gunman who went on a shooting spree in Illinois and Indiana last week. A description of the suspect and his vehicle led police to Brian Dorian.
"His whole life he's done everything right," Diane Dorian said.
Also attending Monday was fellow Lynwood police officer, Sgt. Tim Smith, who made this pledge: "I'm not going to rest until Brian's out."
Supporters have printed T-shirts that say "Free Brian." A crowd of at least 25 plans to be at Dorian's court appearance, where more charges are expected. They will also wear Boston Red Sox armbands for Dorian's favorite team.
His family says they have information that will prove Dorian is being incorrectly charged. They say they are afraid to release that information now in fear it will backfire.
