Woman Injured By Falling Glass From Loop Building
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police blocked part of a busy downtown sidewalk Thursday afternoon, after glass fell from a building.
The Fire Department said the sidewalk at Madison and Dearborn streets was closed after debris fell from the 14th floor of the Sears building at 2 N. State St. Glass was seen on the street below.
"It was like gunfire falling all over," said one woman.
A woman was slightly injured by the glass, suffering minor lacerations to her lower back, police said. The woman refused medical treatment. Beyond that, the crash frightened pedestrians and motorists below.
WBBM Newsradio 780 reported a truck driver saw a full pane of glass come crashing onto the street.
"When I passed Madison, it came down boom in front of my truck and came down with force," said James Brunke.
In an e-mail from building management, workers were told to exit with caution following the incident.
Michael Simborg works on the fourth floor and said he witnessed one pedestrian being consoled by paramedics.
"There was no blood, no injuries," Simborg said. "She was pretty shaken up."
