Fallen Arlington Heights Marine Makes Last Trip Home
CHICAGO (CBS) - U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. James Bray Stack has made his final trip home.
Small arms fire cut down Stack, of Arlington Heights, as he conducted combat operations in Helmand Province, a Taliban stronghold in southwestern Afghanistan.
Stack was a 20-year-old rifleman, and enlisted in the Marines 19 months ago. The Marine Corps says that this was his first combat deployment, but he already had been awarded the Purple Heart.
He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
On Thursday, Chopper 2 HD followed along as people paid tribute to the fallen Marine. An honor guard escorted the procession carrying Stack's body back to Arlington Heights.
Stack is survived by his wife and 1-year-old daughter.
