Fake Harvard Rejection Letter Puts Chicago Student In Spotlight
(CBS) -- A Chicago student is an Internet sensation after posting what looks like a college rejection letter.
CBS 2's Roseanne Tellez explains how the high school senior turned a potentially bad experience into viral gold.
Molly McGann, a student at Chicago's Francis Parker School, says seniors often face rejection when they apply to college. She says she figured why not turn something sad into something funny.
So, she penned a fake rejection letter from Harvard for a school humor magazine.
"Your essays raised some eyebrows," the letter says. "For future reference, it is not wise to start an essay with the words with 'Listen here you little slanks.'"
"We also didn't need a copy of your mix tape no matter how 'fire' it is," the fake rejection letter says.
The letter struck a chord.
From the Boston Globe and E Line, to the UK's Independent Newspaper and the Canadian Broadcasting Company. It had more than 80,000 likes on Buzzfeed alone.
She says she's never had this kind of response.
"It's insane, but flattering," McGann says.
She expects to hear from Harvard -- one way or the other -- later this month.
