Facing Further Review, Residents Will Have To Wait For Driver's License

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Beginning this summer, when you apply for a new Illinois license, you'll now be getting it through the mail.

The new program aims to fight fraud and identity theft.

Under the new system, residents will apply for a license in person, but applicants with only get a temporary ID.

A permanent license will be sent later after the application is fully reviewed.

The license will also have a new design, which will be rolled out gradually.

Illinois is joining 39 other states that have already moved to a similar system.
