Plows On The Streets Deal With New Snowfall
CHICAGO (STMW) - As the city gets blanketed with a fresh covering of snow Sunday morning, the city Department of Streets and Sanitation has dispatched 174 snow-fighting trucks onto the streets.
At 5:30 a.m. Snow Command notified 174 snow-fighting trucks to report for duty to their preassigned routes on Lake Shore Drive and Chicago's main streets in response to light snow that was expected to be in the area throughout the day, a release from Streets and San said.
According to the National Weather Service, periods of light snow were expected Sunday, with accumulation of up to 1-inch. This will continue into Monday morning, according to the weather service. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches by Monday morning are possible.
Snow Command advises motorists to drive with added caution, especially on routes that could have temporarily narrower lane configurations from previous clean-up efforts.
