Extra-Alarm Fire Burns Bridgeport Warehouse
UPDATED 12/07/10 2:55 p.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- No one was injured Tuesday morning in an extra-alarm blaze at a large warehouse in the Bridgeport neighborhood.
The 2-11 alarm was called at 1500 W. 33rd St., a block east of Ashland Avenue, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis.
The 200- by 150-foot vacant warehouse was burning all around, Curtis said.
CBS 2's camera at U.S. Cellular Field showed plumes of smoke blackening a large section of the skies to the west. The smoke had turned white by noon, and fire offiicals said the fire was under control by that time.
Telephone and Web listings indicate that the building had most recently been used by a trucking operator.
The Fire Department received the call of the fire at 11:20 a.m. A total of 125 firefighters from 34 companies responded.
The fire was out by 12:25 p.m.
Fire officials believe the fire may have been sparked by welders at the warehouse.
No one was injured or hospitalized.
