Extra-Alarm Fire Breaks Out At West Side Chinese Restaurant

CHICAGO (CBS) -- An extra-alarm fire broke out early Wednesday at a Chinese restaurant in the South Austin neighborhood, and left two other buildings damaged.
As of 5 a.m., emergency crews remained on the scene of the 2-11 alarm fire at C&P Fried Rice, 521 S. Cicero Ave. Thick smoke continued to billow out of the building as fire crews attempted to quell the flames.
By 5:30 a.m., the fire appeared to be out, but smoke still left the area in a haze.
Two nearby buildings also sustained minor damage, but crews have so far managed to confine most of the flames to the restaurant.
Residents in the two nearby buildings evacuated, and a CTA warming bus was provided as a place to stay as crews continue to respond, police said.
Firefighters also checked the two nearby two-story buildings to make sure no one was still isnide.
Cicero Avenue was closed between Jackson Boulevard and Flournoy Street as of 5:30 a.m. CBS 2's Derrick Young reports the exit and entrance ramps on the Eisenhower Expressway at Cicero Avenue were also closed for a period of time to accommodate firefighting efforts, although they were back open by 5:15 a.m.
No injuries were reported.
