Extra-Alarm Fire On Near West Side
UPDATED 02/18/11 8:56 a.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An extra-alarm fire broke out early Friday in an industrial district on the city's Near West Side.
The 2-11 alarm fire broke out in the 2100 block of West Fulton Street, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.
No injuries had been reported as of 5 a.m., Gaines said.
Ninety-nine firefighters and 39 pieces of equipment were in defensive mode battling the blaze at the two-story, 50 foot by 125 foot commercial structure, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado said.
Three aerial devices were pouring streams through a breach in the truss roof. The fire was deep inside the structure, and a defensive operation was safer than firefighters going inside the building.
Emergency crews were notified of the blaze sometime after 4 a.m.
Bond Corporation, a manufacturer of tack cloth, is located near that address, according to the company's website.
The fire was finally extinguished by around 7 a.m.
