Extra-Alarm Fire At Lake Zurich House
LAKE ZURICH, Ill. (STMW) - Firefighters extinguished an extra-alarm blaze early Monday in northwest suburban Lake Zurich that left an unoccupied, two-story house uninhabitable. No injuries were reported.
At 12:46 a.m., a fire was reported at a two-story house at 1045 Old McHenry Rd. near a YMCA, according to a Lake Zurich fire lieutenant.
The blaze was also next door to a Lake Zurich fire station and firefighters were on the scene very quickly, the lieutenant said.
Upon arriving at the scene, fire crews encountered heavy flames on the first floor and smoke on the second floor and attic, according to the lieutenant.
A second alarm was called while crews were already working, according to the lieutenant, who did not have a specific time the second alarm was called.
Sixteen neighboring fire departments provided assistance and fire station coverage, the lieutenant said. Firefighters had the flames under control within an hour and completely extinguished at 2:24 a.m.
The house, which was unoccupied at the time of the fire, is rendered uninhabitable, according to the lieutenant, who declined to specify how many people were displaced by the blaze.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday morning, the lieutenant said.
