Ex-Lawyer On Tape: "Kill That F****** B****"
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Prosecutors in Will County have released audio secretly recorded in jail - a tape they say features a whispering inmate trying to arrange the murder of his ex-wife.
Former attorney Robert Gold-Smith, 54, of Homer Glen, was convicted of trying to arrange the murder of his ex-wife in 2012.
The evidence against him included secretly recorded audio from a wire worn by a fellow inmate at Will County Jail. Prosecutors said the recordings tied Gold-Smith to a murder-for-hire plot.
"You want me to kill her for $5000?" an inmate is heard saying on the tape.
"Just kill that f------ b----. I'm telling you. F--- that f------ b----," another voice said in hushed tones.
"All right, I'm telling you, I got her. Slow down, man. Just listen. I got you, man," the inmate wearing the wire said.
Gold-Smith tried to convince a judge it wasn't his whispered voice.
"If the voice doesn't fit, you must acquit," he told the judge.
But he was convicted and last month sentenced to 30 years.
