Ex-Illini Richmond Headed Back To Jail
(CBS) Jereme Richmond's world continues to crumble.
Once poised to lead the Illinois basketball team back to a national championship, the future now looks bleak for Richmond.
He was taken back to jail Friday after a Lake County judge learned the former Waukegan High School basketball star tested positive for marijuana while out on bond, the Sun-Times reported.
Richmond tested positive for marijuana on Oct. 5, according to Lake County Assistant State's Attorney James Newman.
The former Mr. Basketball of Illinos was charged with aggravated battery and unlawful possession of a weapon following his arrest Aug. 8. Bond was initially set at $100,000 but was lowered to $65,000 when Richmond bonded out.
"I explained to (Richmond) the importance of following the rules of court. Mr. Richmond understands the allegations," defense attorney Lawrence Wade said.
He is accused of aggravated battery against a woman authorities said he may have dated. Police found Richmond in a vehicle that contained a handgun the day after the woman was allegedly battered.
Richmond is due back in court on Nov. 7.
The 19-year-old left Illinois after the 2010-11 and declared for the NBA draft but went undrafted.
