Evergreen Park Mayor Now Suffering From West Nile Virus
EVERGREEN PARK, Ill. (CBS) -- Days after the mayor of Lombard died of the West Nile virus, it turns out that the mayor of Evergreen Park is also now suffering from the disease.
As WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports, Evergreen Park Mayor James Sexton has been suffering from the mosquito-borne illness in recent days. Village clerk Cathy Aparo says Sexton missed the first Village Board meeting ever on Monday night since he was elected in 2001.
Mayor Sexton released a statement saying that he would return to work as soon as he can, and that people should guard against the West Nile virus, which is carried by mosquitoes.
Aparo says Sexton, 60, expects a full recovery.
Last weekend, Lombard Mayor Bill Mueller, 76, died of the West Nile virus. Mueller had been mayor of the western suburb for 19 years, and previously had battled cancer several times.
