Even Affluent Suburbs Harbor People Who Need Salvation Army Assistance
NORRIDGE, Ill. (CBS) -- There's a weekly bread distribution at the Salvation Army Community Center in Norridge and a monthly food-pantry giveaway.
"Sometimes people have a sort of perception of a community of a certain affluence or whatever and wonder if there's any particular need," says Salvation Army Capt. Brian Davis. "But then every Wednesday when I look at the line, I say obviously there is a need."
The center also provides after-school activities for young people, other resources for people struggling financially as well as worship services.
The need is year-round, Davis stresses.
"When the Christmas season rolls around our hearts just become more aware and open."
