ESPN's President Admits Network Went Overboard With Tebow Coverage
(WSCR) Finally, ESPN admitted to what we've all been thinking.
In today's Sports Business Journal, ESPN president John Skipper explained how his network focused on Tebow maybe just a little too much.
"I said, 'Guys, we didn't handle this very well.' Going to training camp wasn't a problem," Skipper said. "We just stayed on it relentlessly and too long."
Skipper even stated that though Tebow may have provided a temporary boost in ratings, the coverage may have ultimately hurt ESPN's reputation and brand.
"We all know that if you focus on the Tebow story, for the next 10 minutes you're going to do better," Skipper said. "But the question is trying to take a long-term perspective and saying, 'Guys, let's not get over excited about one story and hyping it.'"
