ESPN Orders SportsCenter To Stop Accurately Crediting SportsByBrooks
(WSCR) Late Tuesday afternoon, SportsByBrooks broke the story that Arkansas was interested in LSU coach Les Miles.
Brooks' sources told him Arkansas was looking to offer Miles a five-year deal worth roughly $27.5 million.
Multiple news outlets later picked up, and accurately credited, Brooks' story - even ESPN's SportsCenter.
During the 11 p.m. edition of SportsCenter, anchor Steve Levy announced the report and properly gave credit to SportsByBrooks.
ESPN executives were not happy about this, however. Later that night, the following message went out on ESPN's internal editorial wire.
"IMPORTANT: DO NOT CREDIT SPORTS BY BROOKS FOR THE ORIGINAL STORY ABOUT MILES HAVING AN OFFER," the message read. "CREDIT REPORTS."
