Esiason: Cowher 'Perfect' Fit For Bears Franchise
(WSCR) Bill Cowher hasn't walked the sidelines of an NFL game since he retired following the 2006 season - one year after he led his Pittsburgh Steelers to a Super Bowl championship.
His time away from football hasn't stopped rumors engulfing his name each offseason, as teams scurry to find a new coach with a proven track record.
As the Bears conduct their own search for a head coach, one NFL expert said Cowher would be "perfect" for the Bears' job, but added it doesn't appear Cowher is ready to return to football.
"This is a great franchise - it's got a great history," Boomer Esiason told The McNeil and Spiegel Show. "I always kidded Bill Cowher. I said,'You were on the sidelines of the Pittsburgh Steelers, one of the great franchises of the AFC, one of the great franchises with great history and great tradition.' The only other teams that I could ever see coach Cowher coaching would be the Giants or the Bears because he would be the perfect guy for both of those cities. But I don't think he wants to go back to coaching. I'm not starting rumors here. I'm just saying that's how we view the Bears."
