Englewood Woman Killed After Bullet Flies Through Window
CHICAGO (CBS)-- A 22-year-old woman died after a bullet came flying through an Englewood home shortly before 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
Jasmine Reese was visiting her boyfriend in a home on the 7200 block of South May Street when an argument and or fight erupted outside. A bullet was fired, passed through a window and hit Reese, the unintended target, in the head.
She was pronounced dead on the scene.
Stefanie Seaton said she was planning for her daughter's birthday in a few weeks. Tragically, she's now preparing for her funeral.
"She came in and kissed me and said she was going out, and not not even 24 hours later I'm getting a call that my daughter's gone," Seaton said. "It's just hard on everybody. They just don't understand that we're a grieving family, and we want answers. I want answers."
The killing took place in a district where police say three other murders have occurred in 2019.
Year to date, these kinds of cases are actually down 62 percent from 2018.
Reese's family said she was working in security with hopes of eventually becoming a correctional officer. That goal and her life are now cut short by gun violence.
"She was just fun-loving," Seaton said. "She enjoyed herself."
Seaton hopes the person or people responsible be held accountable.
"They need to pay for what they did," Seaton said. "It's always the innocent people that get hurt in the crossfire, and they need to understand that."
No one is in custody at this time.
