Employees Tied Up In Drugstore Robbery
UPDATED 01/04/10 5:36 a.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police are looking for armed robbers who tied up employees after breaking into a CVS drugstore in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood.
As CBS 2's Mike Puccinelli reports, box cutters were the weapons of choice for the robbers. They were wearing ski masks and hoodies when they barged into the store at 7858 S. Halsted St. around 10:30 p.m. Monday.
The store had closed for the night about half an hour before the heist.
One employee was cut in the hand. A couple more employees were in the store but were not injured.
The robbers ransacked the store's office before fleeing with cash and a cell phone.
The CVS store is separated only by a low wrought-iron fence from the grounds of the Gresham (6th) District Police Station, at 7808 S. Halsted St.
The brazen crime in close proximity to a police station bothers some neighbors.
"They're practically saying, 'We can get away and do what we want to do; we can get away with whatever,'" one woman said.
Neighbors want police to step up patrols in the area, where they say crime has been rampant.
Details on the search for the robbers are few and far between, and it is unknown how solid leads are in the area.
