Emery: Bears Are The 'Right Fit' For Marshall
(CBS) Brandon Marshall's past is well documented.
He's developed the reputation of an NFL "bad boy" that can be difficult to work with. Still, Bears general manager Phil Emery thinks the Bears organization is the right place for someone like Marshall.
"We have a great core of staff, coaches and players for someone like Brandon, who has had a past history of problems, which we acknowledge," Emery said. "We feel that we have the right fit for him."
Marshall, who has been voted to three Pro Bowls, is no stranger to quarterback Jay Cutler. The duo combined for three Pro Bowls during their brief tenure together in Denver -- something Emery said helped the Bears pull the trigger on the trade.
"We have the right people, as Jay (Cuter) publicly commented on yesterday," Emery said. "Jay knows Brandon well. We also took a look at the composition of the quarterback roster -- that's the key leadership position on your team. When you bring in someone like Jason Campbell into your program, who is a solid leader and person, along with Josh McCown, we've got real strong, core central leadership in that position. ... That helped us finalize our decision moving forward."
