Embattled Schaumburg Police Chief Steps Down
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (CBS) -- After 32 years, He's out of a job. Brian Howerton -- the embattled police chief in Schaumburg -- announced his retirement today. CBS 2's Pam Zekman investigated Howerton last fall.
A source says Howerton was told to retire or be fired and he chose to leave on his own.
The surprise announcement follows a combination of embarrassing events from police officers accused of dealing drugs to their police chief accused of harassing his former girlfriend.
In a press release the village manager thanked Howerton for his years of service. Meanwhile an outside consultant has been hired to help search for a new chief and review department procedures.
The results of their internal investigation into the stalking complaint could be released soon.
