Embattled LifeLock Leads Identity Theft Seminar For Chicago Police
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Chicago Police Department just hosted a seminar for officers on identity theft taught by Lifelock – the same company accused of misleading advertising in Illinois and 34 other states.
As WBBM Newsradio's Steve Miller reports, just last year, the Illinois Attorney General and the attorneys general of the other states, along with the Federal Trade Commission, reached a settlement with LifeLock in which the company agreed to pay $11 million.

The company sells protection against identity theft, and it was accused of making deceptive advertising claims.
"LifeLock promised consumers complete protection against all types of identity theft, (and) in truth, the protection it actually provided left enough holes that you could drive a truck through it," the FTC said at the time of the settlement last year.
On Monday, Lifelock was again surrounded by law enforcement – except this time, law enforcement was in the audience listening. A room was full of more than 200 officers at Chicago Police Headquarters, 3510 S. Michigan Ave.
The free seminar was put on jointly by police and a not-for-profit called the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association.
Lifelock is listed as that group's "diamond-level" corporate partner.
