Emanuel Touts Job Creation Efforts To Chamber Of Commerce

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Mayor Rahm Emanuel touted his plans for job creation in an address to the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce Wednesday morning.

As WBBM Newsradio 780's Debra Dale reports, Emanuel told the chamber that since taking office, he has been focused on fostering the best possible working relationship with Chicago businesses, in his efforts to boost the city's economy.

"Every decision we make, the ultimate end goal is, how does it impact the business environment? How does it impact the quality of life here, so companies can grow, and families can raise their children here?" Emanuel said.

Emanuel noted that in the last 29 days, the City of Chicago has announced the creation of 2,700 jobs.

Emanuel went on to tell the Chamber that the quality of the city's schools, the safety of city streets, and the stability of the city's finances all have a direct effect on whether or not companies will create jobs.

"It is about growing the economy, so companies can expand, companies can relocate, and communities and families can raise their children in their neighborhood," he said.

Emanuel received a standing ovation upon arriving for his speech.
