Emanuel Thanks South Loop Residents For Putting Up With NATO Summit
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Mayor Rahm Emanuel was out thanking people in the South Loop Tuesday morning for putting up with NATO.
As WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports, Mayor Emanuel was at the Roosevelt Green-Orange Line 'L' stop Tuesday morning, shaking hands, giving hugs and taking pictures with commuters.
He mostly said thank you to the commuters for bearing the brunt of all the inconveniences that went with hosting leaders from around the world.
"Many world leaders said they've never been here – our ministers of Great Britain and the Netherlands – and Chicago gave them a lasting impression, and a very positive one," Emanuel said.
Mayor Emanuel believes that is going to translate into increased tourism in Chicago. Just a 1 percent increase, he says, could mean 25,000 new jobs in hotels, restaurants and cultural entertainment.
